The oldest walk-in library in Clermont County is holding a vintage book sale to help preserve its history. The Milford Public Library will put all proceeds from the sale towards digitally cataloging and preserving the founding documents and the board meeting minutes since the library was founded on Oct. 8, 1900. Current president of the library’s board and retired first grade teacher Coleen Binning first found the documents lying inconspicuously in a corner within a dusty old box a few years ago and she spent the time to pick through and arrange them.

A partnership between an animal rescue and a vocational school has resulted in hundreds of dogs saved over the past two years. Sweet Dream House Rescue and the animal science program at Grant Career Center in Bethel have been working together to treat, rehabilitate and find homes for rescue dogs found mostly at high kill shelters. The dog rescue will soon hold what may be their only fundraiser this year to help pay for expenses.

Local author Gary Lee Carmichael took the chance during a stint of downtime to finish a long-awaited goal, to write and publish his first book, Dream Crafters of Marimoor. “I didn’t jump right on this book, but during a period where I was unemployed I had lot more opportunity, I sat down and thought ‘well I’m going to do that.’ This story that’s been in my mind for years I’m going to put into paper and see how it turns out,” Carmichael said.

Over the past 10 years six elementary schools have been built in Milford, and now sights are set on improving the junior high and high school. Milford Superintendent Robert Farrell expressed his excitement about future construction plans at the start of the meeting.
